About the Conference: We are delighted to invite researchers, practitioners, and industry experts to the International Conference on Human-Centric AI, organised by the Institute for Energy Technology (IFE), Halden, Norway. This conference explores the forefront of AI technologies through a human-centric lens, fostering discussions on design, safety, security, physical integration, application, work processes and organizational factors of Human-AI systems. ICHCAI 2026 will be held in Halden, a city nestled between fjords and forests, making it one of Norway’s most beautiful destinations.

Call for Papers

ICHCAI 2026 invites contributions across human-centred system design, immersive virtual and augmented reality, explainable applied data science, Human-AI collaboration, organizational barriers and enablers. risk and safety management, cybersecurity, and trust in AI. Focus areas include operator support, decision-making, resilience, ethics, safety assurance, and societal impacts of AI across nuclear industries, critical infrastructures, healthcare, and digital societies. Topics span ergonomics, cognitive load, human-AI teaming, organizational factors, AI governance, privacy, sustainable technology integration, and human factors in high-risk environments.

Sectoral Applications: Nuclear, Energy, Transport, Industry 5.0, and Critical Infrastructure.

We have five tracks in ICHCAI 2026. Papers in any of these areas, especially those related to Human Centric AI, are welcome to be submitted.

Tracks: Track 1: Human-Machine Interaction and Collaboration (Innovative designs and techniques to enhance Human-AI integration and system usability)

Track 2: Data-Driven Intelligence and Automation (Practical applications and theoretical advances in automation and data science with human-centred considerations)

Track 3: Human-Centred Digital Transformation (Strategies and frameworks for embedding human needs and ethics into digital solutions and transformations)

Track 4: Safety, Security, and Physical Applications (Enhancing resilience, security, and physical integration of AI systems in critical environments)

Track 5: HCAI for on-line decision making in critical applications

ICHCAI  2026 is now in the process of soliciting submissions of original and innovative papers. Prospective authors are invited to submit papers in any of the above-mentioned core or related areas. The submitted papers must not have been previously published or accepted for publication elsewhere and must not have been submitted to any other conferences before and during the ICHCAI 2026.

Submission Details:

ICHCAI  2026 will publish proceedings with IEEE Xplore (Pending approvals). Authors must submit an original full paper, 6-10 pages in IEEE conference proceedings format (https://www.ieee.org/conferences/publishing/templates), that has not been previously published. All contributions must be written in English. Submissions will be evaluated based on relevance to the conference, originality and novelty, technical quality and rigor, clarity and organization, impact and significance, and, where applicable, ethical and responsible research practices, especially in areas such as AI and data use.

Please submit your work via EasyChair: https://easychair.org/conferences?conf=ichcai2026

Important Dates:

Conference Submission open: October 30, 2025

Paper Submission Deadline: February 28, 2026

Notification of Acceptance: March 31st, 2026,

Camera-Ready Submission: April 30, 2026

Conference Dates:  May 21–22, 2026

Submission Guidelines and Review Process

Authors should consult the IEEE authors’ guidelines, read all the instructions (including use and declaration of generative AI in writing, research data policy and copyright issues) very carefully and use their proceedings templates, either for LaTeX or for MSWord, for the preparation of the paper.

Submissions to ICHCAI  2026 will follow a rigorous and transparent review process to ensure high-quality contributions. After the submission deadline, all papers will be screened by the editors for relevance and baseline quality. Suitable submissions will then be peer-reviewed by at least three independent experts. Authors will be given a chance to revise their submission with a rebuttal. The editors will carefully evaluate the reviews and make recommendations based on consensus and merit. Finally, accepted papers will be reviewed by all the chairs. Recommended papers will be sent for final approval to the steering committee and honorary chairs for their observations.   Our goal is to maintain fairness, academic integrity, and constructive feedback throughout the process.
