High-pressure, high-temperature Studies

IFE has a dedicated, advanced laboratory for performing experiments and testing at high pressure and/or temperature environments, where both flow-through and batch setups are available. We provide experiments and characterization in pressure range from 1 to 400 bar, and temperatures from ambient to 500 °C. In addition to the already existing riggs, we have the capacity and ability to design test riggs according to customer’s need.

What we offer:

The testing facilities can serve the customers needs with a broad range of applications for the industrial and academic sector. We offer tracer studies and reproduction of high-pressure high temperature environments for R&D and applications within:

  • Oil & Gas
  • Geothermal
  • Critical Raw Materials extraction and processing
  • Carbon Capture & Storage (CCS)
  • Plug and Abandonment (P&A)

Our facilities and equipment:

  • Hassler-type core holders for dynamic testing of fluid flow through consolidated rock. Maximum core length 45 cm.
  • Columns filled with unconsolidated packing material according to customers need for studying fluid flow and precipitation. Column length can be adjusted.
  • Slimtube setup, 12 m long column filled with unconsolidated packing material.
  • Multiphase tracer release rigs
  • Oil-Water-Gas tracer partitioning setup
  • Autoclaves
  • Tailored-made and application specific setups can be designed and build according to the customer’s needs.

The facility is closely connected to the analytical laboratory (link1) where target materials can be detected down to ppt level in samples from experiments on the test rigs. In addition to traditional chemical analyses, we have the possibility to include radioactive labelled compounds for studying behavior of specific fluids throughout the experiments (e.g. 14CO2 for studying CO2, CH33H for studying CH4).
