The sector staff of more than 70 employees includes a mixture of world class researchers, technicians and engineers. We actively work on addressing the most pressing industrial problems of today.

In line with the UN’s Millennium Development Goals, IFE and the sector have already aligned itself to make sure that we are a part of this solution by working on topics related to renewable energy and circular economy. At the same time we also collaborate with the petroleum and process industry to help them achieve their goals through research and development. We have a strong international focus with a significant part of our revenue coming from international companies.

The most important industry areas for the Flow and Environment Technology sector are:

  • Renewable Energy
  • Oil and Gas
  • Life Science
  • Landfills and Pollution
  • Process Industry

Our strategy is to develop technical solutions through innovative research. An economically and environmentally sustainable industry sector is the key for future success. We will help our clients in Norway and internationally by delivering technology that reduce cost and increase their competitive position in the marked. To achieve this, we will deliver world class research for the industry, develop new technologies and devise solutions to challenges. Our competence with our state-of-the-art facilities will enable the shift in the energy companies from fossil to renewable while at the same time reduce the carbon footprint of oil and gas production in the near future.

Our background and long experience in the oil and gas industry, which has been the most important industry for Norway for decades, position us uniquely to transfer this knowledge and experience to develop cutting-edge technology in other areas like CO2 capture and storage (CCS), geothermal energy, wave energy, and even health technology.

Transition from one business area or industry to other areas are both challenging and rewarding. We are always on alert for practical projections of new and exciting scientific breakthroughs. By focusing on the fundamentals spanning from one industry to another, we make sure that we are always at the forefront of research and development and further transfer new insights in the business areas we move into.

The sector consists of five departments:

  • Corrosion Technology
  • Flow Technology
  • Wind Energy
  • Tracer Technology
  • Environmental Analysis
